From 2004 comes an album that I purchased from the lead singer himself. When I was living in Seattle, this dynamic duo came to Capitol Hill to play a tiny venue.
They rocked my socks off, sounding nearly identical to their studio recording here. Amazing balancing act since it’s literally a drummer and lead singer / songwriter / guitar / harmonica / sequencer player.
They were pretty young. How do I know? Their parents were their roadies and primary merch sellers.
Anyway I enjoyed the show that weeknight, went to the card table and put down $10 for this CD. But what’s funny is other than that weekend, I didn’t listen through again until late last year when I was putting up the Christmas tree.
It’s a full album, and arguably, for some reason is a no-skipper for me. I hope you like this one as much as I did—I do.
Oh and its very likely you’ve enjoyed the drummer, as he was recruited by Isaac Brock to record and tour with Modest Mouse in support of their platinum-selling 2004 album, Good News for People Who Love Bad News. That’s Benjamin who opens up the iconic first bars of ‘Float On.’
